Within the context of patient care, nonpharmacologic treatments (NPTs) refer to clinical interventions not involving drugs. In a 2017 article entitled ‘CONSORT Statement for Randomized Trials of Nonpharmacologic Treatments: A 2017 Update and a CONSORT Extension for Nonpharmacologic Trial Abstracts,’ the CONSORT Group have indicated that, “assessing NPTs raises specific methodological issues related to the complexity of the intervention, the influence of care providers, the expertise of the center, and the difficulties of blinding”. They have also provided a 2017 update to the CONSORT NPT extension and a CONSORT extension for reporting abstracts of NPT trials. The corresponding checklists are also provided within the above reference.
