In using advice relating to SPSS in the later FAQ system, familiarization with the contents of Getting to know SPSS in particular will make all the difference. Also, knowing what type(s) of data you have (see Types of Response Data) will help you identify at least a few of the tests (see Some Useful Flowcharts) which are of relevance to your data, thus serving as a primer to some of the FAQ sections to follow.
If you are a University of Edinburgh undergraduate medical student, you are warmly encouraged to avail yourself of the one-to-one support and tuition provided (see Your Appointment with the Medical Statistician). However, please note that by carefully following the above advice and making full use of the introductory resources provided within the first few sections of the FAQ system you can provide the opportunity for a more needy person to obtain an appointment earlier.
Also, once you have made a start, you may well be in a better position to formulate a clear list of questions to bring along to the appointment on the basis of what you have already tried and need further support with. This approach is particularly welcome with a view to addressing your specific needs (and those of others) most efficiently.
