Merging Similar Datasets

· Q 1. I have two separate data files – one for females and another for males. The columns represent the same variables and I wish to merge the two files in such a way that the columns for males are extended to include results for females, leading to more cases. Is this possible using SPSS?

A. Yes; this is explained in the ‘add cases’ worked example under Open and merge files.

 · Q 2. What if I don’t wish to include more cases but rather, to merge two files for the same individuals, where one file contains demographic information and the other file contains test scores?

This task is explained in the step-by-step tutorial Merging Datafiles in SPSS.
