Summarizing data

The  opportunity for non-specialists to make poor choices and wrongly interpret findings in statistics frequently arises where statistics seems most simple. It makes a lot of sense, therefore, to check on any rules of thumb for choosing between simple descriptive statistics and to look for ideas on how best to summarize data. This section acts a primer on this topic. For example, some well-known confidence intervals are considered here but additional ones are also introduced within the context of more advanced topics.
