Concepts and Rules of Probability

Q. 1. I have been trying to solve a problem referring to the probability of incorrectly picking up a difference between cases and controls where there are multiple comparisons involved. To help me understand better how the correct solution was derived, I would like to learn more about the concept of statistical independence, how to apply the multiplication rule of probability and what is meant by this rule, what is meant by the complement of an event and how to find the probability of the complement of an event.  Can you recommends a good reference?

A. You might wish to consider Probability Concepts and Applications, where you can find some definitions and worked examples.
